Lumikki Cosmetics: Swatches, Review, and a Warning

Lumikki Cosmetics, run by Sule, has been open as an Etsy shop since 2011 and has almost 3000 sales. Currently, Lumikki Cosmetics offer loose pigment eye shadows and nail polishes, but according to their Etsy shop notice, they are soon going to be offering a more varied product selection, as well launching their own website. Please keep reading to find out why you might want to be cautious when ordering here.

I bought ten samples from Lumikki Cosmetics and one full-size of their best-selling Dragon Scale eye shadow.  The full-size shadows come in  5 gram plastic jars with white lids. Disappointingly, the jars do not come with sifters, which means opening them is a bit like handing a monkey a grenade and hoping it doesn't pull the pin out and throw it back to you. Or maybe that's just me because I'm probably the clumsiest person on the planet.

Lumikki Cosmetics Dragon Scale

More swatches behind the jump...

One thing you may have noticed in the first swatch, these shadows do not like bare skin. I wouldn't go so far as to say they refuse to stick, but they do show up really sheerly and good luck getting any of the glitter out of the pot and onto your bare lid. I would say, for me, these shadows are completely useless without primer. I won't even wear these without a sticky base, which is why all my swatches show the shadows swiped over bare skin, then primer (I used Urban Decay Primer Potion), then Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy.

Dragon Scale, when used over a sticky base, is a really gorgeous forest green with a generous helping of microfine bright purple, red, and pink glitter thrown in. The green is perfectly lovely on it's own, but combined with the purple, it's absolutely stunning. I wear this with Sugarpill 2am and Bulletproof, but it also makes a really lovely one colour lid wash. It's really easy to see why this is Lumikki's best seller.  Also, Dragon Scale is a pretty close dupe for Junebug (Junebug has multicoloured sparkle, not just purples), but Junebug is better quality in terms of adhesion, and you absolutely don't need to wear primer for Sugarpill shades. Out of all the Lumikki shades I tried, this one has the most depth to it.

My giant head
Love Like Air, Nazareth, and Intoxicated over UDPP and Pixie Epoxy

I would say this next group of shadows (Intoxicated, Extraterrestrial, Nazareth) is probably the best bet if you want to wear just eye shadow. These show up fine on their own and adhere pretty well, at least for the swatches. Since I've always worn them with primer on my lids, I can't say how long they would last without it. I guess I'm just going to keep saying WEAR PRIMER WEAR PRIMER like a broken parrot.

The Best of the Bunch
Lumikki Intoxicated, Extraterrestrial, and Nazareth

Intoxicated is a really lovely aubergine with fine multicoloured sparkle, though it looks gold in the swatch. It's silky on the lids, applies evenly, and blends smoothly.

Extraterrestrial is an antique gold leaning towards brassy. The sparkle in this is mostly green, so much so that I would almost call this a gold/green duochrome. Again, very silky and blendable.

Nazareth, oh let me tell you about Nazareth. This is an absolutely gorgeous royal blue. It looks rich and deep. The sparkle in this seems to be mostly violet and lilac. Nazareth glides on very smoothly, blends well, and can be applied sheer or built up to opaque.

Lumikki Cosmetics Love Like Air
Love Like Air is cadet blue with self-coloured sparkle. I apologise if my swatch looks teal, it is definitely nothing like teal. Think of the U.S. Civil War and Union soldiers' uniforms. It's that colour blue, but without the mud, blood, and gunpowder. This goes on smoothly and can be blended, but it's very easy to blend it all away. I was able to just brush the bare skin swatch off my hand without any effort.

Lumikki Cosmetics Fairy Dust, Vampire, Arabian Flower, Milky Way, Concubine, and High Tea.

From left to right these are over Pixie Epoxy, UDPP, and bare skin

Lumikki Fairy Dust, Vampire, and Arabian Flower
I'll start this group out with Vampire, as it's my favourite of the bunch. Vampire is sort of a pinky maroon colour with subtle red sparkle. It's very smooth and blendable. This is an exact dupe for Sugarpill Asylum, but again, Asylum is better quality. Without primer, Vampire just wipes right off my skin leaving some red sparkle behind.

Over Pixie Epoxy, UDPP, Bare Skin
Lumikki Cosmetics High Tea

High Tea is a bright bubble gum pink with a subtle gold shift. I'm forgiving this one its ills because it is really a darling colour. However, the swatch over bare skin didn't even last past putting the camera down after photographing it. It does apply a little bit streaky, but the texture is velvety and it blends easily.

Lumikki Cosmetics Milky Way and Concubine

Milky Way, in my opinion, is a missed opportunity. As you can see from the swatch, this is a beautiful black/teal duochrome. Or at least it is if you're very careful with it and manage to gently pat some onto sticky lids after you're done with everything else. Seriously, if you so much as brush this one with your finger, all that lovely teal shift disappears down your face, where it will be an annoying reminder of what could have been. And then you just have a mediocre black eye shadow and sparkly cheeks.

So, now for the ones I really don't get on with.

Fairy Dust is a bright buttercup yellow with iridescent sparkle. Unfortunately, it feels slightly gritty and chalky. It goes on all streaky and uneven whilst managing to stain any skin it touches. I'd give this a big miss. If this was made by actual fairies, they would've been the ones sat in the back of the class eating paste.

Lumikki Cosmetics Fairy Dust, Vampire, and Arabian Flower
Arabian Flower is pretty similar to Intoxicated, but it leans more marooney purple and has only purple/red sparkle. If you want a purple from Lumikki, I'd really suggest going with the Intoxicated because it's more vibrant and it's silkier. Arabian Flower feels chalky and gritty. It's also applies sort of streaky.

Lumikki Cosmetics Milky Way and Concubine

Finally we have Concubine, another purple, which is about one shade lighter than Intoxicated. Both have the same multicoloured sparkle. Again, Concubine feels slightly gritty and goes on streaky. It doesn't have near the depth or sticking power of Intoxicated.

My order from Lumikki dispatched pretty quickly and arrived with no trouble. Sule was very pleasant in our communications and I had no problems with my order. However, looking at the recent feedback she's gotten, it's seems there may be a problem developing as the most recent pages of feedback  have multiple people stating that they had to open Etsy/Paypal
disputes before getting their products.  I actually only discovered this because I was going back to the shop to order a full size of some of the samples I have. I'm glad I checked the feedback pages.

Going on my own experience, Lumikki Cosmetics is a decent enough shop with one or two stand-out shades. But considering the feedback, please do exercise caution if you plan to buy here.
