Swatchfest and Review: My Beauty Addiction

Sorry for the long and unexpected hiatus. To make up for it, I'm going to be posting loads of looks, swatches, and reviews this month. And the first of these is indie company My Beauty Addiction.

See the rest after the jump!

MBA sell on their own dedicated site, linked above, and they also have an Etsy store. I purchased all the products I have from MBA's Etsy shop because I didn't realise they had a stand-alone shop. I will be making my future purchases from their website because they probably get to keep a larger portion of the sales that way.

My Beauty Addiction eyeshadow samples in clamshells

My Beauty Addiction offers a complete range of mineral eyeshadows and makeup, five formulations of lipstick (some of which I'll be reviewing in an upcoming post), and a whole line of body and facial care products. I purchased twenty sample-sized shadows (shown above in clamshells) which were $10 per set of 10 colours of my choosing; Fall Fantasies, a limited edition set of six full-sized shadows for $20, and a whole load of lip products. I'll be reviewing and swatching fifteen of the eye shadow shades for you here, all of which are still available.

The samples, which are really generously sized, come packed in a good quality snap-top clamshell.  I've had these for about four months now and worn them on multiple occasions but there is still plenty of product in all my samples, even the highlight shades. All of the shades I tested have excellent pigmentation. None of them seem patchy or poorly blended. The texture in all of them is very smooth and blendable, even for the glitter bomb shades. I can't speak to longevity of these shades on their own since I always wear my eyeshadow over primer. With primer, usually UDPP or Benefit Stay Don't Stray, they last me all day (8+ hours) with no creasing or fading.

I've swatched all of these over UDPP at the top, then UDPP plus Nyx Milk pencil in the centre, and plain bare skin at the very bottom. I realised after taking the pictures that this is a bit confusing so I shan't do it that way again. But! Just look at those lovely shades!

LOVELIES!
My Beauty Addiction Shadows in Storm, Emerald, Chaotic, and Snapple.

Storm is a lovely deep grey leaning blue. It has tonnes of tiny multi-coloured sparkle and blends silky-smooth. It is the colour of towering thunderheads, just before the first crack of lightning splits the sky.

Snapple is a very bright acid green. It's slightly shimmery with no sparkles.

Chaotic is the blue of Tinkerbell's wings with a bit of sparkle.

Emerald is the most perfect deep green, like a thick canopy of leaves seen from inside the forest. It also has light shimmer and tiny sparkles. I used it as the centre lid colour in this look:

Look Using My Beauty Addiction Emerald, Agent Orange, Fireside Kiss, Provactive Plum, and Angel Wings.

My Beauty Addiction Moonstruck, Twig, and Mink.

Moonstruck is a warm coppery-bronze colour with loads of tiny aurora borealis sparkles. It blends really smoothly, but unless you use as sticky base, a good amount of those sparkles will be lost down your face.

Twig is light matte brown leaning cool. I thought it was completely matte before I sat down and examined it super closely for this post, but it looks like there may be just a few sparkles. However, it could be that some sparkle from another container "infected" this, because the description on MBA's shop definitely says no sparkle.

Mink is almost identical in colour to Twig but leans slightly more neutral and has loads of shimmer, though it didn't show in my photo. I didn't mean to buy 3 of almost exactly the same shade of brown, but I guess that's the one I like!

My Beauty Addiction Eyeshadow in Champagne, Agent Orange, Gossip, and Cherry Bomb

Champagne is the perfect brow bone highlight for me as it's a very pale yellowy-peach. It has a fair amount of sparkle but nothing too obnoxious, sort of like tiny bubbles glistening in a flute of champagne as they trace their way toward the surface.

Agent Orange is AMAZING if you want sparkling yellow-based orange and really, who doesn't want that? When used over a white base, this colour really pops. It's the inner corner colour in the look I posted above.

Gossip is the cousin-twice-removed to Agent Orange, being the most lovely pinky-melon colour, like the inside of a perfectly ripe cantaloupe. Gossip also has slightly less sparkle to it when compared to Agent Orange.

Cherry Bomb, to me, is a misnomer as it's more of a brick red than cherry red. It has a bit of shimmer to it, but no sparkles.

My Beauty Addiction Eyeshadow in Rubies & Diamonds, Bella, Illegal, and Heliotrope.

Rubies & Diamonds seems to me to be less of a ruby red and more of a coppery red. Either way, it's gorgeous and absolutely loaded with diamond sparkle. I would suggest a sticky base like Pixy Epoxy for this if you want to the sparkle to stay on your eyes and not on your cheeks.

Bella is a stunning, shimmering lavender pastel. I think it would be perfect for an all-over lid wash.

Illegal is a perfect magenta with a bit of shimmer. Out of all the colours swatched here, this one seems to be the only one that is available only through their Etsy shop and not their stand-alone site.

And finally, Heliotrope is a deepened fuchsia with a tonne of sparkle. It's almost a perfect match for the new Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick

All of these shadows are a pleasure to work with. There wasn't a disappointment in the bunch, which is vanishingly rare for me. If I were forced to say something slightly negative, it would be that some of the colours lost a bit of sparkle in blending, but that would happen to most loose shadows. Every one of these colours is smooth, intensely pigmented, and just plain lovely. Even the matte is one of the nicest mattes I've ever used.

I've made two orders with MBA to date and liked every one of the products I've received. They ship quickly and respond promptly and politely to inquiries. Their shipping is really reasonable even thought I'm in the UK. My first $65USD order was $16USD for shipping and took about two weeks to arrive. If you've been thinking about dipping your toe into the indie makeup pool,  My Beauty Addiction is an excellent place to start.
