Review and Swatch: Addictive Cosmetics Part 1

A few weeks ago, I ordered a bunch of stuff from Addictive Cosmetics on Etsy. I placed my order on a Tuesday and exactly a week later, I had the parcel in my hands, which is just ridiculously fast for shipping from U.S. to the U.K. Seriously, Amber, the owner of Addictive Cosmetics, must have posted it the same day I ordered it. Also, before I finalised my order, I had a quick question. Within fifteen minutes, Amber had already replied.

I ordered two sets of eye shadow samples, one set of blush samples, a full-size eyeliner pot, a full-size lipstick, and their Fixit, which is a primer and mixing medium.  The items were shipped inside a sealed plastic pouch, which was wrapped in pink tissue paper, all inside a padded mailer. The only problem was that the Fixit:

had leaked all over the bag. It was maybe less than an 1/8 of a teaspoon of leakage, but it was enough to wear the names off three of the clamshells and part of the way off the lipstick tube. 

Again, not a big deal, but maybe there could have been some sellotape around the top. I was able to figure out what was what, so really, the only inconvenience was that I had slick fingers.

Addictive Cosmetics sell samples in sets of any three mineral products in the shop for $4.99 USD, or you can do a foundation sample set for $2.99. For eye shadow samples, you get three plastic clamshells with about an 1/8th of a U.S. teaspoon of product in each. I really prefer having my samples in clamshells as I find it really difficult to use those baggies most people send samples in. I always end up with powder all over my brush, which then ends up all down my face. Anyway, I purchased Autumn, Ravenwood, Sugar Shack, Fragglerock, Grape Soda, Scantily Clad. Amber also threw in an extra sample called On Display.

All of these are amazingly pigmented and buttery smooth.

Scantily Clad is a sort of light peach colour with itty bitty glints of silver and gold. I like this as an all over lid colour to blend out other colours. Super silky, sticks like a champ.

Sugarshack is a lovely frost white. This really reminds me of my formally beloved Mac Vex, which I believe is discontinued. Sugarshack has a bit more pigmentation than Vex, but it has that same amazing luminosity. I use this as a brow and inner corner highlight.

Fragglerock, oh my. This is a vivid matte purple. The formulation for this is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! It's not powdery at all. It sticks like woah and feels almost creamy. Besides which, it's just a really beautiful colour. If Amber's other mattes are like this, I might just have to get them all.  I used Fragglerock as the centre colour in this look:

Autumn is a gold and red toned brown. It has a slight colour shift to burnished gold. This is the colour of an autumn leaf spinning its way to the ground.

On Display was a freebie and is from Addictive Cosmetics' new Housewives collection, which I'm assuming is an homage to Desperate Housewives. This is a blurple duochrome with a black shift and bright turquoise highlights. I did have a little bit of a problem getting this to apply as an even tone, as it had a tendency to leave black streaks over the rest of the colour. However, as long as I really worked it onto my brush before applying it, there were no issues. This is a really gorgeous colour that's definitely worth a little work.

Ravenwood is just flat out amazing. This has a warm brown base with bright gold and red sparkle. I think there are also hints of blue in it. My swatches do not do this colour justice. I did have a little bit of trouble getting the sparkly bits from the pot to my lid, but so long as I used a nice sticky base, they stuck just fine. Notably, and this goes for all these colours, there was little to no fallout. In fact, I had less fallout from these than I do from my favourite Sugarpill pressed shadows.
