All the Green Lipsticks!

Elsewhere on the internet, someone was looking for swatches of green lipsticks and I sort of put so much effort into this it seemed like it should be its own post. So!

OCC Wasabi, OCC Rime, Fyrinnae Narwhal Nuzzles, MBA Cosmetics Emerald, Melt Blow, OCC Derelict
under flash.

Of these, MBA Cosmetics Emerald is probably the most true green. Also, this is the Sugar Babies formula of their Emerald, which is more of a super pigmented gloss than a lippy, but from what I can tell, the Emerald Color Rich Lipstick they offer is exactly the same shade.

Melt Blow is pretty close in tone to Emerald, but Blow has a much deeper shade. It's more of a jungle green than Emerald. Blow is super pigmented and goes on true to the colour in the tube in one swipe, but I do find the formula a bit drying. I don't actually have a picture of me wearing Blow just on it's own.  This photo has Sugarpill Goldilux patted over it.

OCC Rime is a green with a lot of blue undertones. I guess I would call it sea-foam green. This has also has a rose gold mica or something in it that gives it a really nice, subtle shift. I think this is probably the one out of the bunch that I wear most frequently.

OCC Rime

Fyrinnae Narwhal Nuzzles is probably the least green that's still mainly green. It's more of a turquoise. It's a really lovely colour, but I find the formula difficult because it's so slippery that it's hard to get it to go on the lips without looking sort of patchy in places. For this reason, I always wear this over a liner, usually black or blue.

OCC Derelict is definitely green, but it's a khaki or olive green. It has a golden sheen to it but a very grey undertone. I do wear this one a lot more often than I thought I would. Despite being green, it's very wearable possibly because of it's the sort of colour that I think of as a nude/neutral. And also, I have very green undertones so I don't think it looks out of place on my face.

OCC Derelict Lip Tar

OCC Wasabi is the brightest here. It's a spring/yellow green. I don't really think the camera picked up quite how eye searingly bright this colour is, but it is so bright. If I want to completely remove the red from my lips, this is the colour I go for. I mainly use this to do ombre lips and I think it works really well for that.

I hope this is helpful. I know I enjoy seeing other people's colour comparison posts as it helps me figure out if I already have a similar colour. What's your favourite green lipstick?

Swatches of Indrid and Rime: OCC Lip Tar Spring 2016

Because I am neither rich nor famous, I was only able to purchase two colours from the latest OCC collection. I would have loved to get all of them, even Wasabi. But, because I had to be choosy, I went for one that I had nothing like, Rime, and one I hoped would be suitable for everyday, Indrid.

So, Indrid first:

I absolutely adore this colour. Indrid is a greyed-out pink with a bit of silver in it. I could wear this every single day, and normally I hate pink lipstick. But the grey tones in this just make it so special. Plus, as it fades, it gives me a really neat ombre look, as the centre of the lips starts to be more silver than pink. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of that at the moment. I'll add one in later if I can remember to do that.

I also purchased Rime, mainly because I don't have anything in my collection that's like it.

OCC Lip Tar Rime

OCC Lip Tar Rime

Rime is also amazing. This would be the colour of lipstick that mermaids wore if they existed. It's a sea-foam green with a rose gold duochrome. This one also gives an ombre effect as it fades and because of the goldiness, it naturally highlights the centre of the lip and the cupid's bow.

I am so glad I picked up both of these. I do wish they were offered in the squeezy tubes, just because you get so much more product in the tubes, but I really love the new doe-foot packaging, I find that I don't even need a lip liner any more, which is excellent. Somehow, with a lip brush, I always ended up applying just a little too much and then had feathering. That doesn't happen now, so I think that's probably a far trade-off for getting less product.

And just as a bonus, here's a picture of OCC Derelict, which I know isn't part of this spring collection, but it's the only other Lip Tar I've purchased in the RTW format.

I have actually worn Derelict a tonne since I purchased it. I don't know what it is about it, but the greyed-out olive green just works for me. This also has some rose-gold duochrome in it. I just love it.

Have you gotten any of the new OCC RTW stuff?

Don't forget to follow me on Instagram! I post there almost every day.

Swatch and Review: Notoriously Morbid Mystic Mattes and Changeling Topcoat

I don't think it's any secret that I'm a big fan of Notoriously Morbid. They do wonderful eye shadows, some of which I have previously reviewed here, and for about three years now their Coffin Kissers lip balm has been my absolute favourite lip treatment. So of course I had to test out their offerings in the liquid lipstick line.

I bought one of their Ancient Mystic Mattes, two of the Mystic Mattes, and one double-sided tube of Changeling Topcoats. I've had these for about two months now and have worn them several times a week so I can absolutely say I've tested these out properly. I bought these with my own money and I am not affiliated with Notoriously Morbid in any way.

Holiday: An Update

I've just returned from two weeks of holidaying in the U.S. I took a road trip to D.C. and did...let's just call it a bit...of shopping. I didn't take very many pictures because I felt like death warmed over (and not the kind I'm usually going for) for pretty much the entire trip. I did, however, have some taken while I was carving a pumpkin with my nephews (I've blocked out my nephew's face for privacy concerns);

I will be back soon with some first impressions and reviews of Colourpop Lippie Sticks and shadows, Kat Von D lipsticks, and some of the new Notoriously Morbid liquid lipsticks (spoiler alert; THEY ARE AMAZING!).

Happy Halloween to you all!

30 Day Lipstick Challenge: Days 2-4

I almost didn't make it to day two of this challenge because I woke up on the second day feeling absolutely rubbish. In fact, I think I slept from two a.m. Thursday to six p.m. Friday. Sometimes I just can't wake up, which is no good because I had a lot of things I wanted to do and couldn't do any of them by the time I woke up. But, I did manage to at least put some lipstick on and take a picture. It's not a great picture and I am clearly only wearing lipstick, but technically it counts.

I really like the way this looks right after I put it on, but it has a weird thickness and if you rub your lips together or anything, it moves the product around and looks patchy. However, this does leave a stain that is really pretty, so usually I put it on and leave it to set for a few minutes, then wipe it off and wear it as a stain all day. The fragrance is really strongly minty, which I like. I just wish I could wear it like it looks in the picture here all day. The stain is a few shades lighter.

Day 3, I actually felt capable of human being status, so I did a full face and wore my OCC Pagan. This might be my absolute favourite purple, which is saying something because I collect purple lipstick like a magpie hordes shiny things.

I know a lot of people find Lip Tars difficult to use, but I love them. I've ordered some empty doe-foot gloss containers that I'm going to decant all of my Lip Tars into so they can be easier to use when I'm out of the house. Usually though, I put one layer of Lip Tar on with clear liner (I use the Rimmel Moisture Renew Universal Transparent Lip Liner because it does what it's supposed to and doesn't cost the world), blot, and do one more layer which lasts me at least until I eat something. Most of the time, I don't even need to reapply after eating, but with a colour this dark I do.

Day 4 and what do you know? ANOTHER PURPLE LIPSTICK. I know, I know. I promise, at least one of these times, I will wear a different colour. OR maybe I should see if I can do the entire 30 days only wearing purples. I probably do have enough to do that with no repeats. Clearly, I've used my time on this earth wisely. This day is Milani Violet Volt, which I only picked up last month because it was £3.94 as an Amazon add-on item.

This is the only Milani product that I currently own, but after trying it I am really looking forward to purchasing some more lipsticks. The formula of this is really creamy and goes on perfectly in one swipe. I find it lasts a really long time before I need to reapply, at least 5 hours. What doesn't seem to show up in the pictures is that the finish has that opalescent, oil puddle sort of gleam to it. It's not shiny but it looks like the inside of an abolone, all mother of pearl. This colour is really similar to Kat von D's Wonderchilde, which I also have. The only downside I can see to this might be the smell, which is very strong watermelon. I really like the scent, but I know some people don't like their lip products to be scented. It does seem to fade away after about 20 minutes or so.

Now that I'm thinking about it, my next post I will do a side-by-side comparison of Wonderchilde and Violet Volt, so please check back for that!

Look: So Tropicana!

The fact that I'm titling posts after Grav3yard Girl catch-phrases probably says that I've been watching too much Youtube. As if I could actually stop.

Today's look is sort of one that I felt was a failure in real life, but looks okay in the pictures I took so now I'm not sure if it really sucked or not. Make of that what you will.
OMG It's another collage!

Lumikki Cosmetics: Swatches, Review, and a Warning

Lumikki Cosmetics, run by Sule, has been open as an Etsy shop since 2011 and has almost 3000 sales. Currently, Lumikki Cosmetics offer loose pigment eye shadows and nail polishes, but according to their Etsy shop notice, they are soon going to be offering a more varied product selection, as well launching their own website. Please keep reading to find out why you might want to be cautious when ordering here.

I bought ten samples from Lumikki Cosmetics and one full-size of their best-selling Dragon Scale eye shadow.  The full-size shadows come in  5 gram plastic jars with white lids. Disappointingly, the jars do not come with sifters, which means opening them is a bit like handing a monkey a grenade and hoping it doesn't pull the pin out and throw it back to you. Or maybe that's just me because I'm probably the clumsiest person on the planet.

Look: First Go With Sugarpill's Cold Chemistry Palette

So, to start, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this palette. All the colours are amazingly pigmented. I will have a proper review of it later on.

Face:
Bourjois Mineral Matte Mousse in Tendre Ivoire
Benefit Posie Tint
Constance Carol Loose Translucent Powder
MUA Fixing Mist

Eyes:
Collection2000 Supersize Mascara in black
Bourjois Eyeshadow 08
Sugarpill Diamond Eyes, Elemental Chaos, and Subterranean on mobile lid
Soot and Stars under eye
Soap and Glory SuperCat felt tip liner in black
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on liner in Perversion on waterline with Sugarpill Bulletproof to set

Lips:
Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Mystic

I'm pretty happy with this look. The one little sticking point is that I think my eyebrows are still the wrong colour. Does everyone have this much trouble with their eyebrows? I swear, I used to think they were just fine the way they were. I never bothered to fill them in, even when I did have a full face of makeup. I think I actually didn't realise that was possible and, in retrospect, I probably looked off with all that makeup and strangely unfilled eyebrows. I sort of wish that I hadn't started filling them because now I feel like I look sad and naked if I don't. But, seriously, finding the right colour and technique is really difficult.

Look: Silver and Cold

I have a deep and abiding love of Sugarpill eye shadow. Since I started getting  into makeup about five months ago, the majority of my looks have been done with Sugarpill shades. This look is no exception.
For my eyes, I first smoothed on Urban Decay Primer Potion.  I used Sugarpill Velocity as the main lid colour.  I brushed Starling into the inner corner to about centre. Bulletproof went into the outer v and I blended it into the crease to add depth.  I used Tako to blend out the colours above the crease. For the centre lid, I dabbed on Tiara and blended it up and out along the top of the crease. I also dabbed a bit into the inner corner as a highlight.  For the brown bone, I used Bourjois 08. The winged liner is Soap and Glory SuperCat eyeliner pen in Carbon Black.  The water line is Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On liner in Perversion, which I set with Sugarpill Bulletproof.  I carried a bit of the Starling down along the lower lid.

My foundation is Bourjois Mineral Matte Mouse in Tendre Ivoire. I purchased this just a week ago and I am loving it. A review of it will be up soon. My blush is BeautyUk Capitol Pink.  The lipstick is Calvin Klein Desire with some Bourjois dark brown brushed over top to deepen the colour. I set my whole face with translucent powder, which I think is by Constance Carol, and then misted MakeUpAcademy setting spray all over.

The Good.

I was really happy with how my eyes turned out for this one. I think I managed to blend everything really well without making it muddy or accidentally getting blue all the way up to my eyebrows. I also managed a pretty decent wing for once and my eyes didn't water all over the place and ruin it. My foundation is even and my face is mostly one colour. I didn't accidentally give myself blush sunburn.

The Bad.

At the time, I thought the lipstick went well with the eyes. Now I'm not so sure. I think it might be the wrong tone?

The obvious problem is my eyebrows. I think the shape is fine, if a bit on the severe side, but I like severe as my eyebrows naturally grow in with a pretty wicked arch. However, these eyebrows are going into Bert and Ernie territory. They don't look as bad in the photos as they did in real life, if you can imagine how awful they must have been.  Away from the washing out effect of the flash, they were really, really black. REALLY black, like the Monolith from 2001 black. So clearly, I need to work on that. They grow in fairly black and I'm following my natural brow line here, but? Horrible things. I think it's the combination of making them so uniform, so black, and a smidge bigger than they actually are that pushes them into HOLY BALLS SHE HAS TWO CATERPILLARS ON HER FACE territory.

As always, suggestions and constructive criticism are welcome!

Swatch and Review: Sleek Lip 4 Palette in Tease

I was stumped for a bit as to what should be the inaugural post here at Blue-haired Beauty, but I finally decided it should be something that I couldn't really screw up. So! The Sleek Lip4 Palette in Tease pretty much fits the bill.

This palette offers 4 amazing reds, two cool tones and two warm tones, in either matte, satin, or gloss. It includes a lip brush, which is a bit crap, but as far as I can tell, that's standard for brushes that come with palettes. If you're in a pinch and don't have any other brush, it'll do. The palette includes a really good-sized mirror and the palette itself looks far more posh than the price. It's made of sturdy matte black plastic that doesn't feel as if it's going to fall apart if I bang it around in the black hole that is my bag.
