Swatchfest: My Colourpop Lippie Stix Collection

When I went to the States in October, I picked up a whole load of Colourpop makeup. I reeeeeaaally wish they would start shipping to the UK, because I enjoy almost all the makeup I purchased from them. I don't have any of their liquid lipsticks at the moment, but I have just asked a friend to order me two of the Ultra Satins. For now, here's a quick swatch of all the Lippie Stix I currently own.

The top picture in each of these was taken on the same day with flash.

Tootsie
Colourpop Tootsie
I am not a wearer of neutral lipstick as a general rule, but Tootsie is probably my favourite Colourpop shade so far. I like that it's sort of a grey-beige. If I'm in a hurry and don't have time to select a shade, it goes with basically everything. I will be very sad when I run out.

Colourpop Tootsie

Wifey
Colourpop Wifey
I bought Wifey because it looked like a bright purple on the website, and perhaps it would lean more purple on someone who isn't the colour of milk. On me, it's a blinding pink. I think I've worn this twice on its own, because I am so not a pink lipstick person. However, the formula is really nice, and I like using this with really dark purples to make a nice ombre lip.

Colourpop Wifey

Leather

Colourpop Leather
I bought Leather because purple, and it is a really lovely colour. However, the formula for this specific colour is not so great. It goes on fairly patchy and seems to slide around on my lips. I can make it work with lip liner and a bit of finagling, but I feel that shouldn't need to be the case.

Brills

Colourpop Brills
Brills is a very light pinky-lavender. On me, it's mostly lavender. This is another one where the formula seems too slippery. However, since it's such a light colour, it doesn't show up patchy. It's very comfortable on the lips and is another colour that I often use for making ombre lips.

Fern

Colourpop Fern
Oh look, another purple. I can't help it. I just love purple lipstick. Fern is the only Lippie Stix that I also bought the matching lip liner for, but I never use the liner with it because it doesn't need it. I do use the liner with Leather or Brills, because it works really well with both of those. Fern is probably the colour I wear most often after Tootsie. It's just the perfect, easy purple for me. It's a little more glossy than I would prefer, but I still wear it at least once a week.

Colourpop Fern

Grind

Colourpop Grind
Grind is the perfect warm-toned purple. No issues with the formula and it isn't drying. I wear this one frequently and love it.

Flawless

Colourpop Flawless
Flawless is a very nice, deep berry shade. The formula is great and it dries almost matte after a few minutes on the lips.
Colourpop Flawless

Wet
Colourpop Wet
Wet is pewter grey with sort of an olive undertone. This one has issues with formula as it likes to slide around. It tends to go on patchy, so I generally have to put it on, blot well, and then do another layer. However, the colour is so great that I don't mind having to finesse it a bit. It is very glossy leaning toward metallic.

Bossy

Colourpop Bossy
Bossy is an absolutely lovely warm-toned red. The formula is great and the look is classic.

Colourpop Bossy

Blood

Colourpop Blood
As beautiful as Bossy is, it doesn't hold a candle to Colourpop Blood, at least for me. This is the perfect blue-based red. This is vampire lipstick and I wear it aaaalll the time.

Feminist

Colourpop Feminist

This is a purple so deep it's almost black. The formula is fabulous, not patchy or too slippery. I can put this on and reliably get at least 4 hours of wear before I need to retouch. One of my absolute favourites.

Colourpop Feminist

Corset

Colourpop Corset
And lastly, Corset is another colour that looked more purple on the website than it tends to on my face. This is a fairly light purple/pink that can go either way depending on the the rest of my makeup. The picture above, with really neutral eyes, looks purple, but the picture below, with warm red eye makeup, looks very light pink. Either way, this is a very nice colour, and one of the few "pinks" that I don't mind on myself.

Colourpop Corset
So, that's the entirety of my Colourpop Lippie Stix collection. Even with the few...disappointing shades, I still really like these. And at $5 US, they are definitely worth checking out. Now if only they would ship to where I live!

Swatches of Indrid and Rime: OCC Lip Tar Spring 2016

Because I am neither rich nor famous, I was only able to purchase two colours from the latest OCC collection. I would have loved to get all of them, even Wasabi. But, because I had to be choosy, I went for one that I had nothing like, Rime, and one I hoped would be suitable for everyday, Indrid.

So, Indrid first:
OCC Lip Tar Indrid

OCC Lip Tar Indrid

I absolutely adore this colour. Indrid is a greyed-out pink with a bit of silver in it. I could wear this every single day, and normally I hate pink lipstick. But the grey tones in this just make it so special. Plus, as it fades, it gives me a really neat ombre look, as the centre of the lips starts to be more silver than pink. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of that at the moment. I'll add one in later if I can remember to do that.

I also purchased Rime, mainly because I don't have anything in my collection that's like it.

OCC Lip Tar Rime

OCC Lip Tar Rime

Rime is also amazing. This would be the colour of lipstick that mermaids wore if they existed. It's a sea-foam green with a rose gold duochrome. This one also gives an ombre effect as it fades and because of the goldiness, it naturally highlights the centre of the lip and the cupid's bow.

I am so glad I picked up both of these. I do wish they were offered in the squeezy tubes, just because you get so much more product in the tubes, but I really love the new doe-foot packaging, I find that I don't even need a lip liner any more, which is excellent. Somehow, with a lip brush, I always ended up applying just a little too much and then had feathering. That doesn't happen now, so I think that's probably a far trade-off for getting less product.

And just as a bonus, here's a picture of OCC Derelict, which I know isn't part of this spring collection, but it's the only other Lip Tar I've purchased in the RTW format.

OCC Lip Tar Derelict

I have actually worn Derelict a tonne since I purchased it. I don't know what it is about it, but the greyed-out olive green just works for me. This also has some rose-gold duochrome in it. I just love it.

Have you gotten any of the new OCC RTW stuff?

Don't forget to follow me on Instagram! I post there almost every day.

Reverse Smoky Eye Tutorial

My latest tutorial is now up on Youtube!

This is an eye shape that I have been playing with a lot recently and I really love it. Not only does it look cool, it's super easy and fairly quick.

I've done it in purple:

Hellboy Inspired Makeup Tutorial and BeautyBarBaby Matte Attack Liquid Lipsticks

My latest tutorial is up on Youtube:

I did this tutorial with two options for the lips:

This super bright, very blue lip.

And this more neutral, toned down look.

You can find a full product list for this look in the Youtube tutorial.

I do just want to quickly talk about the BeautyBarBaby Matte Attack Lipstick that I'm wearing for the second lip look. I received this colour, Fortune Teller, and another colour, Poison Apple, for Christmas. I think I've written about my love/hate relationship with matte lipsticks before, but just to refresh: I like how long-lasting they are, but I hate putting them on and having my mouth feel like a shriveled raisin.
BeautyBarBaby Matte Attack Liquid Lipstick in Poison Apple and Fortune Teller
The BeautyBarBaby Matte Attacks seem to get the best of both worlds, however. They do last a fairly long time, in the range of 5 to 6 hours, but they don't go on like cement. I can put these on, let them dry, and still move my mouth like a normal human. Also, they don't flake off in disgusting chunks like my LA Splash ones do. I'm very pleased with the formula, and as they have a tonne of colours, I'll definitely be picking up a few more.

And here is a look I did using both the colours, plus some Sugarpill Lumi in the centre.

Monster High Series: Frankie Stein

A few years ago, I had to be somewhere rather early, and because I am not the most capable person first thing in the morning,  I had pulled my hair into bunches and slapped on a layer of dark lipstick because that was about what I could manage. I was in a lift heading to my destination, and a woman and and her small daughter were looking at me more than what I thought was necessarily polite, but I didn't say anything because I'm very non-confrontational. The woman finally said, "Sorry, we don't mean to be rude. It's just that you look like Draculaura." Her daughter giggled and smiled at me. Well, that got a smile out of me, and made having to be up and out that early totally worth it.

Recently, I've felt I was falling into a bit of a makeup rut and so I started looking for characters for inspiration. That little interaction popped into my head, which meant that Monster High was the first thing I went to. Also, it doesn't hurt that I have the same face shape that seems to be the only one in the Monster High universe, :p.

So here are two of my Frankie Stein inspired looks! I did one super cartoon face and one that's safe for travel among the Muggles.

My First Youtube Makeup Tutorial!

I have been working up to doing this for a while. Last year I made a few abortive attempts at filming. I recorded several tutorials that will never see the light of day, but they helped me figure things out. The lighting is still not perfect, but I've ordered a ring light, so I will try to sort that out for the next one. I hope you like this! If there are any looks you'd really like to see, please let me know. I'm also doing sewing things, because I love sewing, but those aren't blog appropriate, so I won't link those here.

Anyway, I know I'm repeating myself, but I do hope you like it. There will be more to come, so please like, comment, and subscribe. Thank you and I hope you all had a lovely holiday.

Swatch and Review: Notoriously Morbid Mystic Mattes and Changeling Topcoat

I don't think it's any secret that I'm a big fan of Notoriously Morbid. They do wonderful eye shadows, some of which I have previously reviewed here, and for about three years now their Coffin Kissers lip balm has been my absolute favourite lip treatment. So of course I had to test out their offerings in the liquid lipstick line.

I bought one of their Ancient Mystic Mattes, two of the Mystic Mattes, and one double-sided tube of Changeling Topcoats. I've had these for about two months now and have worn them several times a week so I can absolutely say I've tested these out properly. I bought these with my own money and I am not affiliated with Notoriously Morbid in any way.
