I woke up on October 27th and I couldn't move without screaming. Then, the pain escalated to the point where I had absolutely no position that didn't feel like being stabbed with a thousand shards of glass. For two days I was in such awful pain that I cried and literally screamed with pain. I probably should have called an ambulance. I just kept hoping the pain would lessen, I guess. I mean, I'd been in pain from my back for over a year by that point, so I was hoping the pain would go back to "normal", as in, just back to level I was able to lie in bed without crying.
But it didn't.
October 29th, the pain...ebbed? I'm not sure what the right word is. It didn't go away or really diminish. I think I was so exhausted by that point, I started to lose my senses. I called for a taxi and then endured the most horrible ride I've ever taken. I couldn't sit up, but there wasn't enough room for me to lie flat. I screamed and keened the whole way to hospital. I apologised to the driver repeatedly in between sobs and screeches.
As it was revealed once at hospital, the bulging disc in my back was much worse than I had been led to believe. I was admitted, pumped full of morphine, which did nothing for the pain until they had given me the largest non-lethal dose they could, and even then it barely lessened the agony.
I spent most of November in the first hospital, waiting to be transferred to another hospital that specialised in the type of surgery I needed. The only nice thing about that time was the constant administration of morphine. I'll have a more in-depth post about that on my other blog.
Finally, I had the surgery, a discectomy. Three days later, I came home, and I've been recovering ever since.
So, I apologise for my extended absence. I'm doing much better now. I can walk about! I don't hurt every second of the day. It's amazing.
I have a whole shedload of products for review, swatches from a range of amazing indie companies, and a few tutorials. I will have a new post up on Monday and hopefully will start posting regularly again next week.
But that's how I spent my holidays. I hope you and yours all had a better season than I've had, although, surgery was the best gift I could have gotten. Thanks NHS!
